Moving to a two-acre lot in Weddington with many trees (pines planted for harvest but converted into lots) in June 1989, we were set for shady, low maintenance gardening. Three months later Hugo visited and that is when this garden began. We lost almost 90 pines but now enjoy a wide variety of mighty trees, understory and ground level plantings, mostly natives.

I am a collector so on a visit to the garden you will see many different trees, woody ornamentals, and perennials.  Paths in the back move from one area to another through the leaves that are left on the property.

Probably the greatest challenge is keeping the invasive exotics out. The garden is backed by planted farm land with a tree line that contains several dozen invasives. Our garden is planted to welcome many species of birds and insects. It will be my pleasure to give you a tour.
