Explore The Use of Trees by Native Americans

Walk led by Phyllis Smith, Natural Resources Agent

Join Us! Saturday, November 5, 1-3 pm

Tanglewood Park, 4201 Manor House Circle, Clemmons

Several "Woodland" Native American groups inhabited the Yadkin River Valley prior to European Settlement with an abundance of natural resources at their disposal. Explore the ways that these groups used native trees and tree resources as we enjoy a leisurely walk through the Nature Trail of Tanglewood Park in Clemmons. Participants are welcome to explore the area on their own after the tree walk.

Phyllis Smith worked for Forsyth Parks and Recreation for 15 years as the Nature Education Director for Tanglewood Park. She is currently the Natural Resources Agent for N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center.

Enter the park through the main entrance, which is off US Route 158.  Inform the attendant at the park gate that you are a participant in an Extension program at the Arboretum.  The gate fee should be waived. Mention Phyllis Smith as your leader if necessary.

Take a left after passing the Manor House, park in the Manor House parking lot, and walk down to the main entrance gate of the Arboretum. We will meet at the entrance gate of the Tanglewood Arboretum. The Nature Trail is unpaved and somewhat hilly but not strenuous. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.
