Carrie Blair will tell you how to identify trees any time of the year, using phenology (the study of periodic plant life events: leafing, flowering, fruiting), location, shape, bark, branch, pattern, buds, leaf scars, seeds and more.
In the winter, this allows us to id trees in any season.
She will use examples at Asheville Botanical Garden. Bring a hand lens and binoculars if you can, and any mystery leaves or photographs of trees to learn from.
Carrie is a Master Gardener and a tree expert. She taught Winter Tree ID with Josh Kelly, MountainTrue, Public Lands Biologist at Cradle of Forestry and taught a 12-week Winter Tree ID for the Transylvania Master Gardeners every winter.
